Edmund Chan’s Journey from Death to New Life in Christ

Successful businessman Edmund Chan seemed to have everything the world could offer—wealth, influence, business success, and a life filled with luxury. Yet beneath it all was an explosive temper, spiritual emptiness, and a heart searching for lasting peace.

Raised in a devout Buddhist-Taoist family, Edmund devoted himself to idols, amulets, and traditional beliefs, trusting them for protection and prosperity. Unknown to him, God had already begun pursuing him through a faithful Filipina maid, Irene Perez, whose quiet prayers and witness led his three children to Christ. Together, they faithfully prayed for Edmund’s salvation.

After attending church out of curiosity, Edmund encountered the living presence of Jesus. Challenging God to reveal Himself, he was overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit and surrendered his life to Christ. From that day, everything changed. His violent temper disappeared, his addiction to alcohol ended overnight, and he destroyed every idol and object of false worship in his home. Although he faced rejection from family, friends, and business associates, he found a joy and peace that the world could never offer.

God later transformed not only Edmund but also his wife, Cheng See, whose life became a powerful testimony of compassion through the founding of House of Hope, a ministry that has cared for thousands of poor families and children in Penang. Together, they became passionate servants of Christ through the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship (FGB), leading many to faith in Jesus.

In 2019, Edmund faced his greatest trial. Severe pneumonia left him in a coma for 42 days in the ICU. Doctors believed he would not survive, and his family gathered to say their final goodbyes. While unconscious, Edmund experienced a vision of Jesus, clothed in radiant white, lifting him from the grip of death. He knew the Lord was saying, “It is not your time yet.”

Against all medical expectations, Edmund regained consciousness. Though doctors predicted he would depend on oxygen for the rest of his life, believers around the world prayed fervently for his healing. Month by month, God restored his lungs completely until he no longer needed oxygen.

His specialist could only say, “You are a miracle.”

Today, Edmund continues to testify that his greatest miracle was not simply surviving death, but receiving eternal life through Jesus Christ.

His life stands as a powerful reminder that God can transform the hardest heart, restore the hopeless, heal the impossible, and use every trial for His glory.

“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” — Psalm 50:15
